I haven't done any actual comparisons side by side, but think I could live with AP alone if I wanted to do this. I also have Iridient-X Transformer which I used instead of LR for conversion, but now use C1P for this also. It certainly also could be used on a stand-alone basis as it is a capable RAF converter. I actually started trying it out when it first came out & immediately found that on my Mac it was much faster & easier to use than PS. Some time ago I switched from using Lightroom & Photoshop, & now use Capture One & Affinity Photo together, doing basic editing in C1P & AP for what I used to do in PS. Now it's a simple matter to just use some other raw conversion software (even free) and then Affinity is a good raster editor. When converting a raw file to RGB you really want to have access to an HSL adjustment tool that you can use prior to conversion. It really does matter if you do some operations on an image before you convert it to RGB - for example WB. Affinity doesn't even make the attempt.Ĥ. Some aren't quite so good at it but at least they try, but not Affinity. Most decent raw processor will attempt highlight reconstruction in the event one of the channels in the raw file is clipped. They will for example try and simulate what was available on your camera or at least allow you to add and use your own input profile. Most decent raw processors give you input profile options when processing a raw file.
That alone is enough for me to consider it unusable.Ģ. That means if you want to go back and make any kind of a change or adjustment to that work you have to start over from scratch. In other words it discards any work you do in the raw develop module when you click develop and convert the raw file. First: Affinity photo is an excellent raster editor and a terrific deal at current prices - good software.īUT the raw develop module is poor to the point where I would rate it not usable.ġ.
